Match Preview
Chicago Fire FC heads to the Rockies to take on the Colorado Rapids for the final road game of the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 31.
The Men in Red will play their penultimate match of the year coming off a 2-2 home draw against Orlando City SC. Following a 2-0 first half deficit, Jonathan Bamba entered the match in the second half to spark a comeback with a 57th minute strike. Just over 10 minutes later, he reeled in a ball in the box before laying off for fellow winger Maren Haile-Selassie to tie it, clinching the best record at Soldier Field in 25 years.
Colorado earned a valuable win at home against Western Conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps FC last Saturday before heading west to the Bay Area to face the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday. Seeking a postseason berth for the second time in three seasons, the Rapids came back from an early deficit thanks to forward Morgan Whittaker's second goal in as many matches. The visitors then took advantage of a San Jose red card to go up 2-1 in the 73rd minute. Another red card, this time for Colorado, leveled the playing field before the Quakes tied the match at 2-2, delaying playoff qualification for the Rapids.
All-Time MLS Regular Season Record vs. COL: (20-14-10)

Hyundai Keys to the Match:
- The Shining: The Men in Red swoop into Colorado ready to play in a slasher of a match against the Rapids. All work and no play makes Jack (Elliott) a dull boy.
- 28 Years Later: The Fire play the Rapids, their very first opponent in the 1998 MLS Cup Playoffs. Three points could help them round into a form like the one that helped them win the Double 28 years ago.
- Weapons: With five goals in the last two matches, the Fire attack is getting hot at the right time. The dangerous part? Those goals are coming from all over the field, be it from distance, inside the box, the run of play, or set pieces.

Match Notes
- Chicago will play Colorado for the first time since 2019, the longest the Men in Red have gone without playing any current team in MLS. As one of MLS’ original clubs, the Rapids have faced the Fire 44 times in the regular season, the eighth-most of any team.
- Chicago owns the all-time series against Colorado with a record of 20-14-10, to go with two wins in their only two postseason meetings – the first two MLS Cup Playoffs games in Fire history.
- Chicago’s first league win in Atlanta guaranteed a winning percentage of .500 or better on the road for a second consecutive season. A victory in Colorado would be the seventh away from home in 2026, two short of the Club record set last year. The 16 combined victories would be the most in any two-year stretch in Fire history, one more than the 15 between 1998 and 1999.
- Philip Zinckernagel’s game-winning goal in Atlanta lifted his career goal contribution total to 47, the most in any two-year stretch in Club history. One more goal or assist would help Zinckernagel reach the top 10 in the Club’s all-time list of goal contributions.
- Defender Sam Rogers (Lower Body) and Robin Lod (Lower Body) will not available for selection in Colorado. Defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi and midfielder Dje D'Avilla return to the roster after serving suspensions for yellow card accumulation on Wednesday.
